The Engagement Session Guide
(Or your excuse to go on a date while I third wheel with a camera)
Let’s keep this simple. Your engagement session is meant to feel like a relaxed, fun date. You show up, be yourselves, and I’ll take care of the rest. No pressure. No stiff posing. Just the two of you doing what you already do best: laughing, moving, and enjoying each other.
Rain or shine, mountains or downtown, the goal is always the same: honest, authentic photos that feel like you. All I ask is that you come ready to have a good time.
What to Wear
Feel good first. The photos will follow.
Choose outfits you genuinely love and feel confident in. That might be your favorite date-night look or something new you’ve already tried on and feel great wearing.
Confidence shows up in photos every single time.
A few easy guidelines:
Dress for the location. Heels and hiking trails rarely mix well.
Stick to your own style. If it’s not “you,” it’ll show.
Coordinate, don’t match.
Add interest with layers or accessories.
Avoid anything overly tight or uncomfortable.
Plan for the weather. Cute jackets and sweaters are always a win.
Spring and fall sessions are perfect for quick outfit changes. A jacket or sweater instantly gives your photos a new look without needing a full wardrobe swap.
Getting Ready
A little prep goes a long way.
The day before your session:
Skip foods and drinks that might make you feel bloated or sluggish.
Drink water and plan for light snacks. I’ll bring bottled water too.
Try on your outfits ahead of time so there are no surprises.
Clean that ring. You’ll want it looking its best.
Pack a small touch-up bag with a brush, makeup, or blotting papers.
And trust me on this one—tic tacs beat gum every time.
What to Bring
Comfortable shoes for walking between spots
An extra outfit or two if you’d like variety
An umbrella, just in case
Anything that feels like you: dogs, props, motorcycles, champagne, or save-the-dates
If it matters to you, it belongs in your session.
During the Shoot
This is not a Vogue shoot. It’s a date.
You don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide you when needed, but the best moments happen when you’re moving, touching, laughing, and being a little flirty. Stay close. Keep interacting. Be your wonderfully quirky selves.
The magic shows up when you stop thinking about the camera and just focus on each other.
If you have ideas, questions, or something unique you want to include, tell me. I’m always happy to help you plan, brainstorm, or reassure you along the way.
Now all that’s left to do is show up and enjoy the moment. I’ve got the rest covered.
